Mine

Unread post by shooter13 » Mon Oct 30, 2006 3:44 pm

I am a pretty mediocre guitar player myself. I won an ovation celebrity 12 that I bought because I like the sound of 12 strings. I love mine. It takes forever to get used to the round back. I learne dto play on a cheap fender and then an Epiphone FT-145. I got my ovation about a year and a half ago. I like it but now I am more interested in playing 6 strings again. I really want to buy the Taylor 314 I played the other day. Just can't stomach the cost.

A quick question for you guys. Do guitars like the 314 depreciate if they are taken care of?

I have a friend here who has an ovation. It was ok, but it just feels really awkward because of how the back is shaped.

I just picked up a Taylor 214 and have seriously fallen in love. My other mark of approval goes to Alvarez too. I played an Alvarez AD60CKfor 2 years it was a remarkable guitar, but the dreadnaught body was starting to feel clunky to me. So I'd say if you are looking for serious guitars with good prices go along those lines.

I think the 314(ce) is a nice guitar...Personally I would go for a 414(ce) or a GS if your looking at Taylor.

Martin has some really nice Aura models you should tryout. All solid wood and sweet pickups.

People here will you to go try Larrivee. But you should really try everything in that price range. And no, I don't think that the 314 would lose it's value.. Its a well built all solid-wood guitar. It should be fine!

yea i liked the 314/414 as well. Unfortunately I am but a college student with just a summer job, and most of that money i throw to paying for college or otherwise I'd have bought a 714 :)

yea everytime i tried to play my friends ovation, it would just start to slip down my lap because of the rounded back and where the sides are suppose to be... it was really frustrating, and uncomfortable because i had to make my right arm tighter to keep the guitar up.

i think my ergonomics just aren't right for them, but i thought it sounded nice and the neck/action played very well. I could play them with a strap standing up but thats probably it.

I still couldn't do it with a strap, because of the pressure I had with my arm when I normally play pushed it at a slant.

The LX series have a "patch" on the back that's a little rougher, and it stays on your leg easier. I admit that the shape took some getting used to, but with practice, the guitar stays where you want it, especially with a strap. My preferred bowl shape is the Super Shallow, as it's nice to play without having to reach so far with your right arm.
