Michael Kelly guitar review

Unread post by Ranting Thespian » Fri Nov 21, 2003 12:45 am

I have I recieved the guitar that was posted for sale here: http://www.dmbtabs.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=6083 and here are the pictures posted: http://www.joneslab.com/Guitar/MKGuitarFS/index.htm

I told you all I would type a review. But, in one word I can say it all: thisisabosulutelyfcukingkewlwellbuiltandawesometoplayandlookatguitar!!!!!!!!!!!!

The guitar looks similar to a martin, but it's not a martin. The neck is very strange yet comfortable. Closer to the guitar it is very round and smooth, and going farther down the neck it starts to have a very small point on it. it's slight, and may sound uncomfortable, but in some way it allows me to play open chords even more comfortable. The neck is slightly skinnier than a normal martin. The inlays are awesome! They are right on the edge of awesome and too much, but it sits on the line so perfectly, it's awesome and beautiful. Now, the action is very nice, and again, there seems to be something unique about it, I just can't put my finger on it. The guitar itself is lighter than a martin. The stain is richer and the wood is somehow more bright (not light, but more intense, and that's a good thing). The finish is thick, but it doesn't do anything with the sound, it will actualy keep off more scratches and scuffs (there are no scratches, dimples, scuffs, stain spots, or anything wrong with it. The sound isn't as low as a martin and isn't as high as a taylors, it sits right in the middle, and it sits perfectly, plus it has a SOLID wood top that really makes this a outstanding buy (and from davesguitar.com , the one of 2 guitar stores that I actualy enjoy and trust, said they didn't know the brand or anything but if it's a solid wood for 250, they told me to get it). The body's size is a dreadnaught, but something about it that it is more comfortable than my fender for just sitting with it. This guitar is built strongly too even though it's light. You can see it from the inside and the fell that it's very very solid built.

There are only 2 things about it that I don't like, but they are minor. One thing is that it has a plastic bridge (just the slip that comes out of the saddle). When I get a fishman pickup I will replace it with a wood one, but for now it's fine, just when I get a fishman I am going to look for a replacement. The other thing is that he put on pretty heavey strings, thanks eddy ;), and they are D'Addario, so I gotta get some ligher Dean Markley strings on it sometime soon ;) .

Now, this is a fucking good guitar, it will always be with me, I can tell you that! It's so fucking good!!!!! Going to play it now :-D

I just got an e-mail back from michaelkellyguitars.com .

List price : $795
Usual Store price : $595

They told me that it was a awesome deal at 250 for the guitar. They are making them, but the ones they made they couldn't keep them up, so they delayed the marketing of them. If they would put it up on the site, there would be a demand they are not yet ready for, so they aren't going to announce them til next year.

Man, I love this guitar!
