High e string won't stay in tune...HELP!

Unread post by mlee » Fri Nov 07, 2003 10:05 am

I recently (like 3 days ago) put on some new strings on my acoustic. I was using D'addario EXPs. Anyways, they were getting old and dead so I had a package of Martin SP's 3100 sitting around, so I decided to put them on. Well just this morning I've noticed that my High E keeps dropping out of tune pretty much as soon as I begin to play......not really sure what to do with this, can't find any glaring problems that could be causing this. Any suggestions on what this could be or what I could do to try and remedy the problem.

thanks
- Matt

the neck of your guitar could be starting to bow...how long have you had the guitar? you may need to have it re-aligned...i think i have to do it too

1. maybe the string is slipping if it's not wrapped around the post enough?
2. i've had experiences with martin strings not really holding up well. bad strings are really hard to keep in tune. if it keeps happening, try switching out the e string.

Well I've had the guitar since the end of last March. I got as a 'new B stock' from music123. It's an epi AJ15E. Not the greatest guitar, but it has been extremely good since I've got it and now this is happening! Whoa-is me.

If the neck was beginning to bow, wouldn't that make all of the strings go out of tune??

---->> crash_in_to_me, good hunch. I have noticed now that it's a lot better than it was...seems to be staying in tune. Hopefully, the string just needed to stretch itself out.....
