i searched and could only find similar topics, sorry if this is a repeat.
anyway, i'm tired of my od-3 overdrive pedal. it won't give me the real distortion that i want. i've heard good and bad things about the blues driver. what i want is to be able to use a little bit of overdrive if i want and if i want, get good distortion. i'm not talking about bang your head into a speaker heavy distortion, i mean good dirty popular rock distortion. is the blues driver for me, or should i look elsewhere?

I wasnt a big fan of the blues driver when i used it, and i definitely don't think it will give you more distortion than your overdrive.
The boss ds-1 can sound pretty good if the distortion is turned down. And if you do crank up the distortion, god damn, you can play fucking metal!
As far as getting two sounds out of a pedal I would say thats more in your technique than in the effects. Another thing you may want to look at is a different pickup. what kind of guitar and amp are you playing it through?

well i love my guitar. it's an ibanez axd82p. it's a les paul style semi-hollow body. amazing sound. but my amp is something that could be worked on. it's a behringer blue devil. it's a good amp, but not a great amp. i guess what i really want is just to able to pull out the distortion when i want to. i won't use it often, i mostly play jazz on it. i just want to be able to play rock.RunsWithBuffalo wrote:I wasnt a big fan of the blues driver when i used it, and i definitely don't think it will give you more distortion than your overdrive.

honestly, i just worked w/ the order of my pedals and got a little more out of it. thanks for letting me know about the blues driver though. i don't want to waste money i don't have

Yeah, thats distortion pedal is only 39 bucks, a great deal for a boss pedal. If you do upgrade, the ones thejoe refered to were ibanez tube screamers, TS-9 I think. They have another one thats an update, but everyone i talk to likes the original. Its one of the most popular pedals ever made and you will hear it a lot on rock records, pricey though, i think its around 120.
