Bourgeois Guitars?

Unread post by taylordb » Tue Oct 28, 2003 7:01 am

I have been frequenting my local guitar shop lately, trying out alot of Taylor's and Martin's, trying to make a decision on a major purchase. By major, I mean something around $3,000 or so (its been a good year at my business and am anticipating a good bonus at the end of the year :D ). It could go higher or lower.

The guy there notices, after numerous visits, that for the most part I tend to play with a "heavy hand". After he listens patiently about my obsession with Taylor's and Martin's he asks if I would be open mined enough to try a guitar by a maker that in his opinion is the best out there. He pulls out this beautiful guitar made by Bourgeois. He tells me that this guitar will take anything I can throw at it, heavy handed-wise, but still keep the highs and midranges of a Taylor....while at the same time have impressive bottom end. It played unreal...very balanced, but would come alive at both the top and bottom ends as well.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone here knew anything about these guitars and would care to comment on them.

Peace,
Danny

My local pro shop (and it really is) can barely keep them in stock, while dozens of "vintage" Taylors and Martins collect dust on their hangars.

Bourgeois are built in Maine, and the few I've played were astounding.
But way out of my price range.

Larrivee is a similar style - well built, tonally exceptional, very highly priced. I like them to, but heck, I even like the occasional Guild, and my full-time axe is a Blueridge that was make in China and STILL beats any Martin, Taylor, Larrivee or Bourgeois that I've ever played.

Having said that, there's a lot to be said for an all hand-made, luthier designed and executed instrument. Martin's just made so many guitar that their quality is consistent, just not necessarily better.

Here's the link....go to the "What's new" section and check out the range of styles that Bourgeois makes.

Hope this helps

I wouldn't say that Larrivee's are high priced at all...I prefer they're tone to taylors and martin and costs less than both. Try out a D-03 Rosewood...satin finished all solid wood Rosewood guitar for a little over $800.
