Stereo Recording ?
I use Cool Edit and a Bheringer mixer. I'm trying to record my guitar through the mic more on the left chanel and through the pick up more on the right. I have the signal going through a 1/4 with a adapter at the end to fit in my 1/8 mic input. I pretty shure that its panning correctly but there must be a setting within cool edit or perhaps I need a different sound card. When I pan it when I record, It doesn't differentiate between channels. Help would be app...

I have a very similiar setup and in order to record in stereo i dont use the line out on the mixer. Instead I bought an adapter cord that is a 1/8 at one end and at the other is two rca cables. I plug those into the mixer on the "tape out" jacks. There should be an L and R plug. Once this is done you can record into cool edit and the sound will be equal on both sides.
Then to pan the signal left and right double click on the track to bring it to single track mode. From there look on the menu to the left for Amplitude. Open that menu and you should see an option for Pan/Expand. use that to move the signal left or right.
You probably could use the mixer to do this but i think its better to do it with Cool Edit because its easier to play with and get to sound right.

Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

I also have a similar setup. I do the RCA thing too, except I have an M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 which takes RCA ins, so it's really simple. Great piece of equipment. I think was around $100.
As for the pan issue, I find it easiest/best to pan both on the mixer and have the same pan in CEP, running multiple mono tracks which I can mixdown to stereo. I do this so I can have direct monitoring from the mixer and have it sound exactly the same as the recording will. This way I can play with positioning, levels, etc. before I record it. I get a decent mix in pre and then gussy it up in post.
If I don't do this, I find that mixing to my pleasing becomes difficult, and you can run into all sorts of nasty phasing issues, overlapping channels, and so on.
Good luck.

you cant do that unless you are using two 1/4 plugs to have actual "stereo." Most likely you will have to play the song twice and record once with the mic and once through the pickup.
You will need to upgrade your input if you want to record separate tracks while playing at the same time.

He's right. I really would suggest the Audiophile card I mentioned above. I like it a lot.
In CEP, before recording, right click the "Rec 1 (or whatever the track number is)" and change the input to either right or left channel, the way you have it panned on the mixer. Then arm both tracks and record. That way, you can mute one track, etc. when mixing. Then when the mix is to your liking, mixdown all the tracks an you're set with a stereo mixdown.

Oh shit, I read your post completely wrong, im sorry dude. I thought you wanted the mic and pickup on two separate tracks, not in the same one. Geek is right as you've probably found. But hey what are the boards for if not to learn!
