Taylor 714 (cut or no cut)

Unread post by Taylor614 » Sun Mar 19, 2006 10:19 pm

Hey guys, need your help again. I've decided not to get a Martin and get another Taylor instead. A local dealer can get me a 714 for $1850. :D
That same dealer can also get a 714ce for $2200. :D Here's my dilemma, which one do I get. Right now I have a 2003 614ce w/ LE 3 piece back. I don't plan on gettin' rid of it. I sort of really like the cutaways, but the 714 is pretty sweet lookin. That's where I need your guys' help. People that have played both please steer me in the right direction.. Thanks a lot.

Well, since you already have a cutaway, I would go with the 714.

I love my 714ce to death, but im sure it will sound better on a noncutaway, but at the same time i like playing up on the neck on it, so it depends on what you want it for, ecpecially with the electronics. Even if you get the regular 714, get the expression system, it's so nonebrasive (sp??) I don't think it will have any effect on it's tone.

Quick question...why another taylor? I mean you have a pretty sweet one already, what would you be gaining by getting a 714? Sure the rosewood my be a little more bassy than maple but they are pretty similiar guitars. If you are building a collection, why not get ones with different voices?

Just my two cents

To you question, I would go for the non cutaway to give the guitar more balls, you can always go to your 614 if you need to go high on the neck.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

I know what you mean Buffalo. There's actually a reason I want the 714ce. When I originally went to the guitar store to get my first Taylor, I was actually lookin' for the 714ce. When I went in, they didn't have one, but had the 614ce with tiger stripe pattern back. After playing it, I couldn't resist. Now, I have a chance to own both of them, and I don't want to pass that chance up. This will be the last guitar I purchase until I'm like 60. :D

Praisedave, you advice has paid off. I decided to get the Taylor 714!!!!! :D Taylor's prices have gone up, so I'm lookin' at like $1995. It's gonna be a sweet guitar.
