if it's a tube amp...there may be a "stand by" switch.

hey i went back to the store, and it turns out that the cable was bad, so i got another one and now everything is cool, woohoo!!!

great I'm not the only one. i just bought it too and have the same issue. What cable was defective?

I'm guessing that he meant the cable from the guitar to the amp.
OP---out of curiousity, did you use a cable that the store had given you for free along with the amp?

Hah, this happens alot with Behringer stuff. They make good stuff, its just you have get one that actually works.
