Buying a new guitar
Buying a new guitar
I've been playing guitar for about two years now, and I'd say that I'm fairly decent. I have a question regarding buying a new guitar though. You see, I've had this Ovation Celebrity CC026 for about a year now, I still plays good and I'm doing fine with it, but I think that it's time to step up to a high-end guitar. My question is this: I have about $300 now. Should I keep saving and buy something like a low-intermediate martin (I was thinking the D-15) for about $500, or should I keep saving up even more and buy a high-end martin or something like a Taylor 414ce. I'm mainly concerned if the Martin D-15 is worth buying (the mahogany rocks), if it will last me, or if If I'm better off waiting about buying a Taylor 414ce, etc.
All help is appreciated,
Thanks,
Jake

I am of the opinion that you should purchase a guitar of such quality, that you need to get better in order to truly 'deserve' to own it. (unless, of course, your finances limit you...I have this problem, since I am in high school.)
This way, 1.) you will be motivated to play, 2.) your guitar will not hold you back, and 3.) your guitar will last you a long time.
I would personally wait for the 400 series, but at the same time, going from ovation to a D-15 (those are nice!) will be a huge step up.

I'm in nearly the same situation as you, although I've only been playing about 6 months, I decided I needed a new guitar too. The rattle and hum of my $89 bad boy balsa wood Montana somehow wasn't as pleasing as it had been, nicely displayed in the front of the store for the first sucker who thought all guitars are basically the same. I took the advice of many helpful people on this forum and went and played a few. I was looking at Taks in about the $700 range but after playing an 810ce I couldn't resist. I actually sounded good playing the 810ce, which leaves no other explanation than that a South American Shaman blessed it with some kind of Harry Potter magic. Although I can't afford the 810ce, I could (after saving) afford the 410ce which (to me) sounded close. I just ordered my 410ce from American Musical. My baby is currently sitting in a warehouse in Jersey. If it's not here soon I'm going to call and reassure it that daddy is waiting and everything's gonna be alright. The thought of the FedEx guy man-handling my sweetheart makes me sick inside.

i put my pants on one leg at a time. it's just that once my pants are, i make gold records.
hosting the oscars is like winning the heisman trophy. no matter how you do in the ballgame, or whatever, they can't take it away from you. and even if you kill your wife and an ex-waiter, they still have a hard time taking it away from you
