Broken Chet?

Unread post by Festivus » Tue Nov 29, 2005 8:42 am

I went to play my Chet last night, plugged it in, and nothing happened. I switched up the batteries, but that didn't do anything either. I'm thinking this is an electrical problem. I play the Chet the least of all my guitars. Would letting sit in the case for extended periods of time be bad for the guitar? How do you recommend I go about getting this fixed? Is this going to be expensive? WTF! :x

For some reason, this happens alot. I had very odd problems (electrical) happen to mine and couple other people I know said the same thing. When I had the Epiphone version, I noticed it took awhile to play almost like it needed to warm up. After 20 seconds of strumming, the sound would finally build up. As for my Gibson Chets, I had to get the electronics completely replaced. The luthier couldnt figure out what was wrong with them. When I got my newest Chet, the 89 model, the pickup was giving out uneven tone, so I had to have the saddle replaced.

As for your problem, check to see if all the wires are sodered down. Theres a good chance one of the wires may have come loose causing no sound at all. Leaving in its case isnt a problem, I barely play my ebony SST. For fixing it though, go to a local luthier ask him to look at the wires to make sure none of the wires are loose. If everything looks fne with the wires, contact Gibson and ask them for the closet Warranty Service Center near you. Certified Gibson Luthier will be able to order the correct electronics for ya. Let me know how that works out. Cheers!

I hate when that happens; when things break from just being left alone.
