guitar + salt air?

Unread post by Duffman » Thu Nov 17, 2005 1:41 pm

so i'm going on a semester at sea for 80 days starting january. the people there said to keep my electronic stuff in a gallon ziplock bag because of the salt air. is the air going to have an effect on my guitar? should i bring it? my brother has a backpacker guitar i can borrow, but i kinda want to bring my full sized one. i just don't want to ruin it...

well, not really, it depends where you are.
Hawaii, yes.
California, no.

It will eat your strings up like crazy. I livved a stones throw from the beach in san francisco and my strings would get ruined without playign them every 2 weeks.

Buy a beater guitar and a good amount of replacement strings.

thats your best bet. You could risk it, but buy a full sized dred and not care about its condition

Salt air will attack anything metal. I see it affecting your tuners mostly (strings can be replaced so I wouldn't care about those). I would bring a beater if I were you.
You're only as strong as the tables you dance on.
