i'm going to recommend this one again

http://www.andysmusiconline.com/product ... axd82p.htm

depends on what you like. if you like les paul-like or hollow bodies...get this one. i freaking love it. i've had it and i've not found one thing i didn't like about it. my uncle who's been playing blues professionally since he was 17 said it was an awesome guitar and wanted to get one. and that was before i showed him the price.

I might be flamed out of here for suggesting this but, I highly recommend a hig end Fender Squier Strat. i picked up a deluxe edition for around 250 last year. It sounds great. A beginner to novice guitarist might not even be able to tell the difference between the Squier and a straight Fender. This would also leave you with a load of money to buy effects.
Good luck on your purchase!

If you can find a PRS Tremonti SE buy it. Most amazing electric guitar EVER in the $500 price range.

Uh everywhere? They were discontinued tho so they're kinda hard to find now but they run from $400-$500 new.
