help on my new guitar

Unread post by hmm69 » Thu Oct 27, 2005 9:10 am

So ive been playin for about 4 years on the same old yamaha. And i thought it was time for a new guitar, i have roughly 1000 dollars to spend. So i was thinking maybe a Taylor 214-E or a Breedlove Atlas Series AC25/SR. But i dont want to jump into something like this without getting some thoughts about those 2 guitars, or maybe a suggestion on a differant guitar.

thanks,

~joe~

It's hard for us to say what sounds best to you. They are both good brands.

I bought a new guitar about 10 months ago and this is what I did. I figured out the maximum that I could spend. Then I went in to about 3 different guitar shops and played as many guitars within that price range. I tried limiting down the 30-40 guitars that I played down to about 3-4 that I really liked. I paid no attention to the name brand just how it sounded, felt and what I liked playing. I then spent about a half hour playing each one over a couple of weeks. After spending time playing all of them, I figured out which one I liked the most and bought it.

So I guess my advice would be:
Don't buy the first one you play.
Play a lot of guitars.
Come in and play them on different days. You may be in a different mood or catch something you didn't catch the other day. Plus you are less likely to impulse buy.

That is the best advice you'll get.

I'm a big fan of Larrivee so if you get the chance check them out.

I love my Taylor 214, some don't (alot don't ) but it plays a fuck of a lot better then my friends 414, maybe that's just because i know how to set up a guitar.

Look at Larivees. I've never played one, but i'ev never heard someone say they didnt liek them. And in the $1,000 I dont think it can be beaten.
