Poser
I have to agree that John Mayer is a major poser...yes, his tunes may be catchy and you will probably listen to them at first...however, when one considers originallity, he is definitely lacking....

that doesn't justify bashing him though imo...immature in my opinion...crimsonPhantom wrote:
you're right about the "fear"...but i think its also a matter of loyalty to an artist...you know the "i love britney spears so i gotta hate Christina aguilera who looks like britney" kinda feeling! its just not logical for them to love artists in different ways i guess....

it seems to me that in order to tell how prosperous a musician will be, you look at their fan base. when i see a john mayer video like "no such thing" i see a bunch of young starstruck girls singing along. there are other places that i have seen this, backstreet boys, nsync... Dave's fan base grew with him and his music because he connected with people on many levels. mayer's public relations have made him into a teen sensation which is a mistake because, typically, the fans grow up. i have yet to form an opinion on mayer, i think i'll wait for his next album and see if he's grown some and gotten some control over his own affairs.

There's no doubt about it. mayer is a sick guitarist. However, his music is reminiscent of polka music mixed with music from the 1940's... and on top of that i find his live presence to be unpolished and very close to the sound of a garage band.. he simply mutilated is best song on the cd - Neon... into a garage band wanna be type of song. i mean what kind of good musician does this? I dont fear mayer, i dont respect his band. i respect him. just dont care for him any more.

i like john mayer. i'm extremely tired of the wonderland song...WAY overplayed. everytime i turn the radio on..."damn baby..." blahblah. BUT i like Why Georgia a whole lot and the solo acoustic of Neon is absolutely wonderful. only thing i don't like is his damn gorrila fingers!!!! ahhh!
on the topic of Guitar Pro...i like it, but i like Power Tab better. *shrugs* more options, but the tradeoff is that it doesn't have a site like mysongbook.org *shrugs*

I don't understand why people are calling John Mayer a "poser"...if he actually said his stuff was original and it really isn't then he'd be a poser and a liar...but he totally admits to being very much like Dave Matthews and Police and it shows quite a bit in his music and especially his live performances. So he's not a poser, he's just a great guitarist who's music is written with Dave Matthews playing in the background lol...He's really not much different than us, he grew up playing Dave Matthews song and writing some of his own stuff and just wound up being liked...yeah he has become a what I like to call teenie bopper...and therefore I'm starting to dislike that part of John Mayer, but as I tell all my friends, and as already said on this board, I'm waiting for him to come out witha second album to decide if I'm gonna start hating him like I hate BSB and Nstink.
What I want is what I've not got, but what I need is all around me.
