buying a 12er
buying a 12er
so i'm deciding that i want a 12 string just to fuck around with. i wanna play grey st and JTR to their fullest, and i kinda wanna write some stuff with a 12 string. but not use it primarily, so i need to know, whats a good 12er for about $400 to $500? i found a few, let me know what you think or what some good ideas are.

The Larrivee is the best one of the bunch, but the reserve is going to be around $2000. I think. Next up would be the Takamine. That's a good price and they make good guitars. Can't say anything about the Rain Song. I've never played or heard one. Their top is made of graphite.
Stay away from the Alvarez. They make good 6 strings but I've always heard their low end 12 strings suck.

"Thank you everybody so much again for tonight. We hope you had a good time with us. We're kind of relaxed and y'all hopefully y'all relaxed too. This is beautiful humidity. We enjoy it and everybody take care of yourselfs. Muaha..." DM
why are you asking for 4 - 500 range and posting ones that arent going to be in it?
kind of hard to give advice if you dont give us an example of what you are looking at.
The Alvarez AD60 is the 12er I am looking at buying righ tnow. I have the 6 string version and absolutely love it, and I more or less just want a brother for my guitar.
never heard one played before, but if it plays as good as my 6 string, i would get one for sure.

hey, i'm looking at 12ers too. i want to get a takamine cause i hear all sorts of good things about them.
well, i went to my guitar shop yesterday to look and all they had was a jasmine 12 string. what do you guys think about these guitars? it was really cheap, less than 200, and it sounded fine for what i played. i just want some more opinions about this guitar before i buy it.
i believe this is the same one i was looking at...

spending only $400 to $500 is pretty much wishful thinking. i'd like to find a good one for that price, but more than likely would end up spending up to $1000 for a 12 string. i just gotta convince myself that i'm gonna use it enough to spend that much money on one.checkii wrote:why are you asking for 4 - 500 range and posting ones that arent going to be in it?

I hopnestly dont think you will though,. i'm buying a 12er more or less to fuck around on hen I am bored and for looks. Like I said, I think it would be pretty sweet to have a matching 12 and 6 string, and i just love the look and sound of my alvarez, so for $230 i dont see why not.Dooder wrote:spending only $400 to $500 is pretty much wishful thinking. i'd like to find a good one for that price, but more than likely would end up spending up to $1000 for a 12 string. i just gotta convince myself that i'm gonna use it enough to spend that much money on one.checkii wrote:why are you asking for 4 - 500 range and posting ones that arent going to be in it?

I cant see many people who arent full time musicians getting $1000 worth out of a 12 string.

so i was probably going to go back to the shop and try it out again, and possible buy this guitar. so does anyone have any opinions on these? should i save my money for an acoustic/electric 12 string (like a takamine EG535C which i've been wanting for a while because of its good reviews).smedley wrote:hey, i'm looking at 12ers too. i want to get a takamine cause i hear all sorts of good things about them.
