My Martin sucks

Unread post by Appfro » Tue Mar 01, 2005 10:28 pm

this isn't a "you should buy a taylor" thread.

I have a martin D 16 GT, it sounds so good, nice and bassy, but my G string and my B string NEVER stay in tune. especially if i bend them. it pisses me off to no end. should i put new tuning machines on it or should i go trade it in for a better martin?

the problem is probably the pins, not the tuners. buy new ones, its like 15 bucks

I am no guitar guru, but I can tell you that it is most likley a small problem either at the bridge or the head. Martin makes fine instruments. Did you buy it recentley from a shop? If so, take it there and have then take a look at it, they might even do it for free.

Take it to a pro and have it setup.

Martin is guaranteed for life, you should have no problems getting another one if indeed the axe is defective.

Charlotte, NC?
It sounds like either a bridgepin problem or something.....could be the way you install the strings, but it seems like all the strings would get out of tune. Or it could be the strings you use, try tuning the strings up a few steps higher then letting it back down to normal tune....you know stretching it out, that helps sometimes. No Martin I have including my DC-16GTE has a tuning problem, but it could be a couple of loseh tuning machines.
If you bought it new, it has a lifetime guarentee with the original owner, so you could get whatever is wrong repaired for free.

the string may be slipping off the tuner as well

it's definetly not a string stretching problem. but yea, charlotte nc, i actually got it in matthews at that guitar center i think. i'm from asheville.

only if the tuners are bad. i give plenty of leadway w/ my string so it won't slip.

so i went and finally got off of my butt and got my martin set up. i looked up my guitar online and everyone has said the same thing, action is too high. plus the pickup i had in it was crap. so i took it to a guy had the action lowered and a new pickup put in. man it's amazing now. i freaking love it. sounds so much better, so much easier to play and the pickup is sooooooooo nice. it was cheap, like 60 bucks but it sounds so good. awesome awesome awesome. just thought i'd let you guys know

Asheville 3 hours from charlotte? No way! :-D I go to UNC-Charlotte and visit friends in Asheville all the time... More like an hour and 15 minutes I think to north charlotte, maybe 2 hours down to Matthews depending on traffic and where in Asheville you live...

Martins are guaranteed for life?? Does that transfer between owners, or original owner only?

I need to take my backpacker in for service if so... it has developed a little crack down its front side.
