Help me chose a guitar to celebrate!
Sell cheap, boost volume, make lots of money too. They are the 3rd biggest martin dealer in the world, so I assume they do go through alot of gear. I am also skeptical of the 10% though. If this price (1850) really was 40% it would mean that many canadian stores sell for over 100% profit. Greedy bastards.

well you see, the markup is their profit, they pay martin like$1100 or so i guess, and then sell it for that, that is the profit, the 40%. sometimes is higher.marc_roy wrote:Sell cheap, boost volume, make lots of money too. I'm pretty sure 10% above cost is considered wholesale.marc_roy wrote:You really think its at least 40% markup? The owner told me 10%, but he could be lying. The price is much better than any store I've been to though.
40% sounds fair. if you think of costs of inventroy, staff, power, rent, loss of inventory, theft, etc... 40% seems fair.

also a store will sell a lot more alavarez and taks than martins, so they have to make their money of the small stuff, so they dont have to sell a martin or taylor everyday, cause they wont, no enough people have the money to do that so often.checkii wrote:I'm pretty sure 10% above cost is considered wholesale.marc_roy wrote:You really think its at least 40% markup? FYI: just called Buffalo Bros. I didn't haggle or anything, but their price was $1950 for the HD... so my dear Florida salesman is still $100 cheaper. I've heard good things about his service too. So if someone is looking for a Martin or a Gallagher, I think he's the guy to beat. (http://www.myfavoriteguitars.com/)

did you try elderly.com ?
Just checked, its $1,860.00 and it would be $18 for shipping to Pennsylvania, she asked me out of the blue where it was being shipped to and I couldnt think where you were from so I just said PA.
Looks like your in Canada, the price for shipping might make it closer to the price from Buffalo Bros, but with their trade in policy, you should probably just stick with them.

tnx for the info.
I had checked elderly... good prices there too. I'll either buy from there or myfavoriteguitars.com. Shipping is about $100 to Canada and then taxes (7%). no duties though - NAFTA.
I don't see myself trading it in later (100$ shipping each way!), so I don't think I'll go through buff bros. Would be cool if it were closer.
