I'm thinking about getting one of these. It's in your budget but it's not a dread. Not sure if that's what you're looking for.

Take a look at a Washburn Wd54sw or Wd56sw, they're actually awesome. ebony fingerboard, ovangkol back and sides (in the 54, it's rosewood in the 56) solid spruce top, gold grover tuners. It sounds really, really nice, even more so after it opens us a little.
it looks really good too, it has abalone all over the place!

I HIGHLY recommend Blueridge's, and the Takamine EF-341C. I have a Blueridge BR-160, which is their version of the pre-war HD-28, and for $500, it's absolutely amazing. Sounds and plays as good as alot of $2000 and $3000 dollar guitars. They also have models similar to the D-18, D-45, and OM-18, OM-28, and OM-45. I had to replace the tuners on mine though, the low e tuner just kind of fell apart, and there is some fret buzz, but hey, it's a $500 chineese made guitar. I bought the Blueridge to replace my Takamine, but I haven't touched the Blueridge in about 2 months in favor of the Tak. It sounds pretty good unplugged, and it plays better than my Gibson Les Paul Custom. Can't go wrong with either 2. I've heard wonderful things about the Larrivee 03 series as well. I'd love to play one someday.

I just bought another Takamine http://www.takamine.com/?fa=detail&mid=889&sid=69
It has awesome action and sounds great. Hang out in Guitar Center long enough and they will give you a good deal. Don't pay tag price though because it's nearly 700 dollars. I paid $360
Then again, it's all what feels right to you.

Hey man, i've been looking a the Blueridge BR-160 sunburst model.. I want a Gibson J-45 but its just too damn expensive. the blueridge seems like the closet alternative.. sooo you'd give the blueridge a two thumbs up..?
Its like... getting two birds stoned at once. (Ricky-trailor park boys).
Most definitely. I think you're referring to the BG-160, which is modeled after the Gibson J-45 with sloping shoulders and sunburt finish. Haven't played that one, but it's a Blueridge so I assume it's a fine instrument for the price. With a Blueridge though, DEFINITELY go to the store and play it, don't get it off the internet, cause every now and then they produce duds.Ryeguy wrote:drakemh wrote:I HIGHLY recommend Blueridge's, and the Takamine EF-341C. Thats a Mahog, they have rosewood for a hundred more
MSRP is a little over 1200. Most retailers will take 40% of MSRP. My Larrivee was a 2001, but it was brand new, never bought, mint condition. It was MSRP $2698, I got it for $1300. You could get a similar deal on an -03 series. I'd say look to spend about 500-800 dollars. You won't be disappointed I promise.

Just before I bought my Taylor 410ce I played a few Larrivees and wasn't impressed with any of them. The one was about $3300 (CAD) but I don't remember what model it was because I was so unimpressed.KahnTheRevelator wrote:Well, I just got one and I couldn't be happier so I'm gonna throw it out there. Larrivees are hands down the best guitar I've ever played and you can get a sweet one for around a grand.
Just my opinion - maybe that was a blip in the regular Larrivee quality.
