Actually, some of us have been using sound equipment, recording, and running live sound on mixers worth more than your house while taking classes for it for many years. We're not "all guessing here". You may be, and thanks for admitting it.catho wrote:Why would you think (because thats all that we do here, no matter if you think otherwise we are all just guessing here) that they use "more" inferior parts than a 100 dollar mixer?
Of course it's not cheaper. That's because it's a better product. Since the OP made it clear in his initial post that his ONLY reason for buying the mixer was that he received a condenser mic as a gift and needed the mixer to provide phantom-power, afterwhich he would plug it into his Audigy 2. A preamp would most definitely improve the quality of the recordings, sorry.catho wrote:Brock, I did mention a micpreamp earlier in this thread, but I would suggest against it. First of all, its not cheaper really. What you do is that you trade away inputs and connectivity for a tube, which might be great for people. But the tube wont make recordings sound good on its own, so it wont make a difference and will still need a good "engineer" adding plugins etc. Therefore the extra inputs and stereo RCA outs and ins are probably more benefitting than an Tele/XLR out that runs through a tube.
Audigy 2's have more than one input...catho wrote:Plus, I'm yet to find a micpreamp with two or more inputs (if I could find it I would get it myself) and I'm guessing that a guitar and a singer is what we are discussing here in this thread, so eventually a extra mic will need an input.
Let's think through that one for a second. Say someone who actually knows something about sound purchases one of these, uses it for 3 days, and realizes how low in quality they actually are. Musicians' Friend, accordingly, receives a very negative review.catho wrote:Musiciansfriend 72 reviews 8.83 overall rating
WTF? Working during the morning gives me too much time to waste on writing asslong posts!Hope its comprehendable.
Do you think they're going to post it?
Of course not. It might lose them a sale. Musicians Friend is, above and far before anything else, a retail merchant, and their only objective is to increase their profits. If you'll browse around the MF "reviews" for a few minutes, you'll see that 8.83 is actually very low on the MF "scale".
No, that's not the purpose of preamps - again, sorry.catho wrote:The idea of preamps is to adjust the level to the input, but OK, nevermind because I might be wrong and dont want to trap myself into a corner.
