woods

Unread post by guitardmb » Wed Jun 08, 2005 9:07 pm

This always seems to be a big deal with a guitar, but I never really knew why. So what is the thing with woods? What makes them good? What are some good woods? I mean in terms of guitar, and what not of course.

well if its solid theres no "ultimate wood" its what you want in your sound. spruce is different from cedar because of sound not of betterness. rosewood is more expensive than mahogony or whatever because its rarer and harder to find in the wild, not because its a better sounding wood, just different tones.

the tones are made by the different grains and characteristics ofthe wood, like hardness, density, etc
