i was going to make a thread a few days ago and forgot. i find out from taylor tomorrow how they will take care of this, but i already waited 2 months for it, i don't wanna send it off again.

anyway for anyone you who work on guitars a lot, how bad does this look? deep? easy to fix?

thanks.

that doesn't seem to be too bad at all. not incredibly deep.

i think it's just the finish that's cracked, so it'll be easy to fix. if it's a crack in the wood itself, the crack will follow the grain, but in this case, it doesn't.

how'd you get a crack in it?

hopefully you're checking up on the humidity it's getting. too much and too little can be a bad thing.

the guitar is only a week old, it wasn't my doing. ;)

can finish cracks be buffed out, like in a local shop, or will i have to send it to taylor?

also, would you ask for a new one, or to have this one repaired (the first one took 2 months to arrive)

as long as the local shop is taylor certified, i'd go for it. finish cracks don't take too long at all, but it just depends on the local shop and it's schedule. but even then, without being taylor certified, just find a local luthier and talk to him about it. it's not a terrible crack, so it'd be less of a hassle to just have it repaired than to wait for a new one, unless you really feel the need and want to be more secure about your purchase.

Yeah - not a professional by any means, but it looks like the crack follows the rosette inlay so it's probably just a finish crack.

For the $ you probably spent on this I would get Taylor to replace it. Not sure how their customer service is, but I would think a replacement would come quickly. I would insist they rush you a new one considering the initial two month wait. That's what I would do anyway.

I, like beef am no expert, but it goes against the grain of the wood, so id say nothing to worry about, but still let taylor know about it and talk to them about what to do.

when I make my first mil I am going to buy some expensive (but not rare of courese) guitar....... and burn it in your front yard while holding a polaroid to get a good picture of you crying.

i also went to guitar center to see my exchange 814, which i found ugly. the wood on the back and sides were different shades....did not look good. ok sound, not as good as mine, and a ding in the bridge...so no thanks.

on the upside i got to play a Lakewood. wow.
