action you can change, i never let that disapoint me when looking at a guitar. and the tone can be changed as well, ive heard a chet sound shrill then i up the bass and pull off on the treble a little and its got a nice tone. and it sounds close to daves stock. and his isnt tooooooo customized. all his tech did was change the pickup and the saddle.Jeremy_9 wrote:I would play the chet first, I was not very impressed with them, the action was a little high for my taste, and the tone was too bright and shrill. Also you might want to know Dave's chet has had its electronics completely stripped out of it, his chet is custom modified. So if your thinking of getting a chet to sound like his guitar, you may be dissappointed.
Is a gibson chet atkins SST worth the investment?

This is very true, action can be changed plus tone, I suppose I was expecting more from the Chet, plus the store i played it at, had it for sale for over 2 grand. As for modifications same is true, I have a 314 that I have made several modifactions on, I had to replace the saddle and nut with bone, had the bridge converted from slotted to unslotted, I also had an Lr baggs element installed. But Overall I really suggest playing any instument first and let your ears decide what you want and whats best for you.filmdude100cms wrote:action you can change, i never let that disapoint me when looking at a guitar. and the tone can be changed as well, ive heard a chet sound shrill then i up the bass and pull off on the treble a little and its got a nice tone. and it sounds close to daves stock. and his isnt tooooooo customized. all his tech did was change the pickup and the saddle.Jeremy_9 wrote:I would play the chet first, I was not very impressed with them, the action was a little high for my taste, and the tone was too bright and shrill.
