Is a gibson chet atkins SST worth the investment?

ive seen these for around 1500 bucks... i was just wondering if they are worth it.... im gonna start saving for my next guitar, and i was thinking about a martin or a taylor.....but then i thought about how i loved a thin body acoustic, and have a wall poster of dave playing his chet atkins.....

so really i guess my question is if you have 1500 to spend on an acoustic guitar.... would you pick a martin/taylor/gibson chet atkins SST?

get the martin or taylor. unless you do a lot of live stuff the chet is overkill, and no worth it.... now if you want a good thin body that has more sound control and sounds great live, but you can hear it and have fun solo at home look into a godin...

those are lower than 1500 and sound great all around, infact dave owns that first one.

Live performance and little home studio work, get the Chet (it's excelent live, I've played both the epi and gibson versions. I think the epi sucks big time, but the gibson one just blew me away)

Little performance and lots of professoinal studio work, get hollow bodied guitar (you can't mic a chet and it doesn't work through the Fishman Aura)

I have to say, I've tried the once godin A6, now the Seagull SA6 (same guitar, just switched brand names), and it sounded and played great for it's price. But, it's not as good as the chet.

those are the multac series, much much better than the a6

No, there's no point in buying a chet unless you already own at least one high end normal hollow body. All it's going to do is limit you, and for that price you can get a very nice std. acoustic that has excellent playability and feel.

Yea, make sure you got your all-purpose martin or taylor...then if you're spoiled or have the money, go for the chet. That's what I did.

BOTTOM LINE: I you love the instrument and it's tone buy it, as long as you can handle the distinct possibility that people will call it the "Dave Matthews Guitar" and may misjudge you as a total Dave head.

Personally I would tell anyone that ignorant to fuck off so I'd buy it. A friend of mine plays a Dave tribute and plays a really nice Taylor 710 series and the SST and he loves it. The sound is great and for his act it works perfectly. If you play live with a band, grab it. If you're playing solo live I'd stay away.

thanks for the info guys, i think ill wait on the chet atkins and explore into some martin/taylors......anyone got any fav models.... im a fan of cutaways

I would play the chet first, I was not very impressed with them, the action was a little high for my taste, and the tone was too bright and shrill. Also you might want to know Dave's chet has had its electronics completely stripped out of it, his chet is custom modified. So if your thinking of getting a chet to sound like his guitar, you may be dissappointed.

anything that ends in _14. As for Martines, I think it would be wrong to get a cutaway. Dreads look best as is.

I'm not a fan of cutaways, but I played a taylor 02 710 ce, with an engelmann spruce top. Very responsive guitar and with plenty of overtones and projection. My personal favorite guitar is the Martin HD28v,its just the definitive acoustic guitar in my opinion, especially for small rooms and acoustic settings. For stage the Taylor none ES models are solid, but there are numerous other models, such as crowdster and takamine are good for stage.
