guitar question

Unread post by guitardmb » Thu Feb 24, 2005 7:23 pm

So im planning on buying a new guitar here soon. In the best case scenario ill have about $1100 to work with.

Originally i was going to get a 12 string but im having second thoughts on that. I cant think of when I will use it much. But if I do go that way ill definatly go for the Alvarez 12er. Can you give me some suggestions on whether i should go with the 12 or not? Like advantages of having one and when i can use it.

Also if i dont go 12 i will have enough for a Taylor or Martin. Specifically the Taylor 214 for around $850 and the Martin D-16GT at $950. The only problem is they dont have pickups. How much more would it cost to install one? And is it a project i could do myself? If not how much for labor fees? And are these guitar worth getting in the first place?

Yea i just found that i was going to post it.

Is the 214e common in stores or will i have to order it online. If i have to order it online would i be able to compare it to the regular 214 or is it going to be much different.

If this is going to be your first "nice" guitar I would get a six string. Overall, I think they a much more versatile guitar. I like twelves but I wouldn't sink a bunch of money into one if you don't already have a solid six string.

Also, maybe you already have but you should check out some guitars other than Martin and Taylor and check out used guitars too.

tehy're not common yet, but they should be. Dont buy guitars online. The search is fun also. Everyguitar is made differently, so play it and feel your connection with it.

Im not going to spend 1100 on a 12er. I was going to buy the Alvarez which is like 600. But since i might have 1100 i wanted to get a nice 6 string so i can have a better guitar and have one to put in different tunings without much trouble.

Any other brand suggestions for good guitars around 1100.

I most certainly recommend Larrivee (as i have two) and have heard good things about tacoma as well. As far as buying via internet, I've done it twice and have been pleased both times. Most places will allow you to return it if you aren't satisfied.

speaking of larrivee...

i was at samash today, last time they only had one larrivee, which was the nicest guitar i've ever played. this time they had 5. 3 of them were top three on guitars ive played all time, then the D-35, then the other two. i now love that company

I love taks. Both my six and twelve are taks. I'm not a huuuuge fan of the G-series I'd rather get something in the F, but the G series does have a few nice guitars. My twelve is in the G series. However, for the money they are really good.
