Need some opinions

Unread post by filmdude100cms » Mon Feb 14, 2005 5:58 pm

ok, so as many of you know, ive been wanting to build a guitar for quite some time. now. i seem to have a small economic problem. I kidna want to get a godin a6 but if i get that i wont have enough money to build one for a few months, and i really wanted to do this this summer. i have enough money right now to get the kit and would have enough money in time to get finishing supplies and what not towards the end of summer. but also. but also i do want that a6, its a good guitar, and if i fuck up the kit i want a fall back. if i got th godin like lets say the godin is $500 id want to have $700-$800 before i bought it so as not to close my acount. so technically once i got the godin, 2 months later i could begin working on my guitar. sooo what should i go guys, wait andget the godin, and then get the kit soon after, or wait get the kit not and get the godin later.

its really a tough call and depends what you would need the Godin for. do you play any gigs? do you jam with people?

i'd say go for the sure thing for now...then wait and get the kit during summer. economically more stable, plus you'll have much more time to devote to perfecting the build.

No doubt get the Godin first. Building guitars arent as simple as it looks. But its cool that you're determined to try it.

i heard somewehre you're ordering a jumbo guitar kit. why? i thought you fingerpick a lot. jw

yeah i mostly do finger picking, but i wanted a jumbo for studio work. just messin around and playing live with a pickup there isnt much difference. but in the studio the difference between a jumbo and a dreadnaught is major. so i figure ill go for a little more space, and get better recording sound. but also i want to get a stew mac kit, because 1. stewmac uses a better quality of wood. 2. its only a little bit more expensive and i get a book with it that ive read at barnes and noble that helps A LOT... martin gives you instrucions like what comes with a model car... but i figure studio wise i will have the godin, and a dreadnaught will sound good enough. so thats what im into now. also with the stewmac dreadnauht itll sound better than the martin jumbo because it comes with bone nut and saddle, and herring bone trim.

i dont know that im gonna get the godin/seagull

its a nice guitar yes, but just being without my acoustic a little over a day i know i dont want a purely electric guitar, and yes the godin is an acoustic electric, but i cant wait that long to get a new guitar. i only have $350 and the seagull is at cheapest $600... thats a good 5 months off, my guitar wont last that long, i cant gauruntee my guitar to make it through march. im thinking about getting a decent acoustic then getting that kit i want... eventually... but unfortunatly if i got the godin/seagull i wouldnt be able to build the guitar until NEXT summer, and ive waited 1 year i dont want to wait another for a guitar i just think is ok.

hmmm dont know what to to. heres the kit i want.

http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdproduc ... uitar+Kits

its an OM body style so it has a longer scale and a body good for both figerstyle and picking. its got solid rosewood back and sides, and a spruce top... basically its a kit to build a martin OM28 or something similar to a JM28 sig with a different inlay.

EDIT: i would like to have the godin, but i wont have the money im worried.
