Open mics generally have their own equipment.

for $100, you cannot go wrong with the shure 57 or 58. they are in just about EVERY major studio in the world. both have the same capsule, just a different wind screen. the 58 is suited for vocals, and the 57 is best suited for instruments, though there are many artists who use it as a vocal mic. If you're going to be using mostly instruments, get the 57--mostly vocals, get the 58. Regardless, you will not notice a difference in sound quality by getting one or the other. Buy a cheap boom stand used, as someone else pointed out. Oh, and one more note, the 57 is usually $10 cheaper than the 58.

You should never have to bring a mic to an open mic, btw.

if you wanted to use the B1, you would need to purchase a power supply because the mic is a condesor mic and needs to be powered with phantom power. The cheapest decent mic pres cost $100, so that will put you over your budget. Also, using a condensor mic is very tricky in a live situation...it is very easy to get feedback unless you have the proper equipment. Condesors are VERY sensitive to sound--if you plug one into your amp and sing into it, youll immediately get feedback because it will pickup so much noise from the room, whereas a dynamic is very directional and only picks up sound directly in front of it. typically, the only condesors you will see onstage are drum overheads.

hope this is helpful.

wow thanks so much jwool, that helped alot. I think i am going to get either the 57 or the 58, cause I want something that is good and reliable. I dont want to have to deal with all these condenser issues. Now I just have to pick between the 57 and 58. If anyone else is reading this and looking for a mic, dont overlook the shure's, everywhere I look people seem to be everflowing with good things to say about them!
