Taylor Big Baby 307

Unread post by denrusso » Wed Jan 26, 2005 9:05 am

So I have been shopping around for my first guitar purchase and I am looking at the Taylor Big Baby 307 and the Martin DX1 (maybe even the Martin D-15). I like the form factor of the Big Baby, but I think I like the sound off the DX1 better. Does anyone have any experience with either of these models?? Advice??

cheers,
dr

ehh I dont have any experience with either of these guitars. But you cant go wrong with a martin or a taylor, they are two of the best brands in the buisness.

Even though I agree with you 6_strings, how could you really say that unless you've tried one of them? And there are also many other brands that are good or better than Taylor or Martin, Dave just makes his preference there so it doesn't automatically make the the best guitars around.

No knockin ya, just saying somethign.

only buy martins above 1000

I advise not to get the baby taylor, they are horrible in my opinion. The only good low end taylor is the 214.

I think most people would tell you to get the D-15 out of any of those

I will chime in and say this. My D-15 has treated me well.

Thanks for all of your responses. How do the alvarez's sound? I plan on trying them tonight and thought maybe someone could recommend a model or two to start out with. My price range is preferably under $800. Thank again...

I personally love the DX1. I think it has a great sound for the price. I've said it in another thread, but I might as well repeat it here...DmbfanJason (another board member) has a taylor 414 and a DX1. We stand them both up next to eachother and both agree that that dx1 sounds better. But I also love the martin sound.

I'd advise against the big baby just because it isn't a full size guitar, and you lose a bit of volume with it.

If you dont want to spend a lot, Alvarezs are a very good idea, my gf bought one for $180, came with a hard shell case and sounds great, Id imagine a $700 or so one would sound very good. Bottom line is, go to a big guitar store, play everything in your price range and buy which one you like the most.

i have to disagree, it looks like one with the BOLTS going through the FRETBOARD. but i think it sounds fine. the bowled back is a nice touch

but i agree there are definetly better guitars in that range, none of which have taylor written on them

don't even know why taylor has the big baby, it is simply not worth that amount of money, i'd rather have a dx1 anyday
