well yeah, Fat Jackie (as i like to call it) is my baby. its just a really solid guitar, the action is just perfect (which has been a problem with some martins i've played) i rarely have to tune it, and it sounds great with a set of nanowebs on it.

I have a friend who has a low end alvarez, and it sounds amazing for what it cost. When I went with him to the music store to help him pick out a guitar, his in particular honestly sounded better than the D-28 they had on the shelf. This comming from a guitar that only cost about a hundred bucks more on what would have been the sales tax on the Martin. I think it just goes to show that a good instrument can be found in a cheap often overlooked brand, while a lemon can be had in whats considered to be one of the best. It's times like this that cause me to get aggravated when people claim that a guitar is great just because of the name on the headstock.

i bought mine brand new, and it was a solid top too (which is usually not a feature on a guitar that cheap).

try a newborn shane, then you might like

Shane, sorry to hear you got a bumb rig. I wonder if it was poor QC on Alvarez's part or if it had something to do with the way the guitar was stored, shipped, etc...I can say I've had my axe for about 8 years and it still amazes me with its strength. About a year ago my wife's snowboard fell on it and knocked it over off the guitar stand and on to the tiled floor, which took a small 1/2' gouge out of the edge where the top meets the side. Just the other day my kid spun around in one of our computer chairs and again knocked it off the stand and onto the tiled floor, this time not a scratch. I was blowin away. For a second (both times) I thought I was gonna have to cry about my broken guitar

I play a Martin D-35, but my friend has some Alvarez from awhile back, and I actually think its a pretty nice guitar. Its action is a lot like my D-35 as well as its playability, however I think my Martin still sounds better.
