New guitar, 500 bucks or less!

Unread post by getoffmywalrus » Sat Nov 27, 2004 7:49 pm

that's what I'm looking for, any ideas?
I've already decided NO Ovations or anything similar, cannot stand those things. I want a plug-in. I'm not sure whether to buy a seperate pickup for a regular acoustic or just go ahead and buy an acoustic-electric. I've looked around online and saw Takamine (spelling?) had some nice looking ones for cheap, I haven't played one though so I don't know about action, sound...

good call on ovations...

look at epiphone, breedloves atlas series, takamine, but the ones in the taks wont be great for 500... and alvarez... make sure ya play those alvarez's though, some of the best and worst guitars ive played have been them, and it wasnt the price that changed the quality.

well... i'd try out alvarez, takamine, seagull, and michael kelly to decide which one you like most. dont let acous/elec or acous be a deciding factor, you can always get a system put in. play anything you can get your hands on, everyones opinions are different. good luck!

ebay is probably cheap, but like filmdude guy said, guitars are something that vary even when the price and make is the same, I think I'd much rather get in a store and play one. I've heard good things about Seagull, a friend told me to avoid Alvarez but maybe he ended up with one of those "worst guitars I've played". thanks for the input though, I think I'm goin' to a few stores next week

I have an ibanez that sounds pretty damn good and I bought it used for like 200 bucks so don't count out used equipment. I have an Alvarez Classical as well and it plays great and sounds well too, but I am personally looking at picking myself up a Tak though I'm looking for a bit more pricey of a model then 500 bucks.

I was looking around the local music store and I found one of the best sounding guitars I have ever played. Get a Johnson 620. I know Johnsons usually suck but this one sound great! http://store.musicbasics.com/g-1000.html
