How many of you guys actually plug in with your acoustics on a regular basis? I don't very often, but then again, I don't have an acoustic amp and I'm not playing in front of Madison Square Garden. Yet.

I was just wondering how many of you think that pickups in acoustic guitars are that important. It would be nice to have the option, but I personally don't see the priority.

Well, I guess what I meant was that I get sufficient volume just from the natural resonance of my guitar (Takamine EG240. Beginners, go buy! :) ) and I don't see the reason to plug in. With your godin, I'm sure you get great tone plugged in, but as it is not a "true acoustic guitar" without an amp it probably could not get the volume you need for playing in front of people in, say, a coffee house setting. Consider the question with the hofner. Have you ever wished you could plug it in?

I plug in quite often. Sometime through my shitty electric amp and sometimes right into my computer. I bought some nice speakers for my comp and it gets a better sound than my 10 watt electric amp.

I plug in a lot because I use effects for looping and delay and such so I have to plug in in oreder to use them.

I'm in pretty much the same situation as Cave, that being never plugging in except to play with delay's and such. Although I plan to start plugging in a lot more pretty soon. I think I'm going to spring for one of those new $800 Fender all in one PA systems. I think picking up one of those will be well worth it not just for my band for some small shows, but also just to have for stuff like live sound for parties and such....and if im not mistaken, I think you can even hook them up to Tv's and such...

I'm gonna recomend you read this thread before you buy a PA system "in a box" as i call them. They are not always the greatest.

Anyway. Read what JoeTechie has to say about PA systems in this thread and read all the other threads. Joe really really really knows what he is talking about. He knows about almost everything.

Anyway, it may or may not change your mind on stuff but it is still a good read for everyone looking at PAs.

I only plug in to record...whenever I play out, I go direct to a sound system...never need an amp...might be nice to get one, but at 16, the 814 broke me

I wanna get a SansAmp DI Acoustic box, but that will be awhile...
