Heavy gauge strings

Hey all, I've been wondering what the benefites of heavy gauge strings are on an electric. Anybody have info on this?

on electrics? just a lower tone. more sustain maybe.

me neither. however id use mediums on my 12 string or any acoustic i had... just to try them out.

the main reason for using heavier gauge strings is for downtuning... keeps the strings from being all loose. theyre also good if you want a darker tone for jazz or whatnot.

heavys do have an advantage though.. build finger strength. :)
