no, just a different marketing strategy.MWR wrote:It's about time. Those elitist pricks over at Taylor are realizing that their guitars are not Gods gift.
and by the way, Gibson is gonna be doing that soon i believe.

I'm not denying that Taylors are great guitars. The fact is there are a bunch of smaller scale shops and private luthiers that make exceptional hand-made guitars for the same price or cheaper. Taylor cannot compete with this level of hands on guitar making and thus I think their guitars are overpriced.filmdude100cms wrote:what order through MF... been doin that a loooong time... and taylor gutiars are a gift from god.

i think its just the opposite... because of cheap labor and lowered prices on materials when bought in bulk large companies like Taylor and Martin are overpowering the smaller luthiers in america by offering a near equivalent product at a reduced price. The small luthiers will always make the best instruments but its becoming harder and harder for them to compete. Its kinda like walmart moving into secluded personal areas in places. The chairmaker in the town has always made the best and most elegant chairs, but you can get a folding chair at walmart for a nickel... they both let you sit... unless you're a chair enthusiast why pay the money? A strange analogy I know, but apt i believe. I am personally against corporations taking over everything and i believe that fine arts such as lutherie should be left to the people that have always wanted to do so, not some illegal alien who just got off the boat and took a week course on how to do his/her part of the guitarmaking process. Thats just my 2 cents!MWR wrote:I'm not denying that Taylors are great guitars. Perhaps you didn't read the part where I said "for less or cheaper". For being a "mass" produced product their guitars are way overpriced.praisedave wrote:i think its just the opposite... because of cheap labor and lowered prices on materials when bought in bulk large companies like Taylor and Martin are overpowering the smaller luthiers in america by offering a near equivalent product at a reduced price. i agree, but compared to "true" handmade luthiers where its the same person working on your guitar the whole way through their guitars are cheaper (most of em atleast) You cant possibly argue that a handmade, quality guitar made by one person costs less than a Taylor (excepting limited editions) I believe most guitar companies overprice their guitars these days. the margin of profit is staggering when compared to other iindustries.MWR wrote:Perhaps you didn't read the part where I said "for less or cheaper". heres my opinion...taylors are awsome, they have best best, most unique, and most inovative pickup system on the market, better than a fishman, took 3 years of research...
i agree, a lutheir will build a better guitar, i myself would like to build a few guitars for myself, and maybe some to sell. but itll be more expensive, takes more time, and the best lutheirs arent exactly in the phone book.
