Re: Buying a new guitar
Dont let that turn you off. I own a Tak and about a third of these boards do too and they are quality guitars. Dont go on where they are made, go on quality and sound. For instance, take cars: Ferrari's, McLaren's, Bentley's and such, all made in England and Europe yet are regarded as the best around.Mikel41 wrote:I went to look at guitars today. My options were an Ovation, Takamine, a lower end Martin, and a lower end Taylor. I do not like the style of the ovation. The Martin sounded ok and the taylor was also ok. The Takamine sounded real good but i noticed it was made in some asian country and that turned me off. Does it really matter where it is made? The Taylor and Martin were american made but did not sound as good.
thanks

My Michael Kelly Legend was made in Korea. It's a fucking awesome guitar. The looks, sound, and plability are amazing for the price and where it was made.
Also, fuck where it's made, as long as it's a good solid guitar, and you like the action and sound, it's a good guitar.

I beg to differ. I have a korean strat from the early 90's and I have had some VERY good musicians play it, and everyone is shocked at how great it sounds and plays.praisedave wrote:amenfilmdude100cms wrote:yes, unless it was made in america all fenders are shit.Macht wrote:unless were are talking about fenderfilmdude100cms wrote:depends, (btw yes the ovations are shit) country doesnt matter, its more the quality and the name, takamine is a good brand, so country really doesnt come into play.
And my buddy who told me to get it owns one of the really rare Clapton signature series strats from the early 70's i think. Can't remember the year, the clapton marking on the headstock was worn away and he bought it at a garage sale when he was 14. Years later him and his dad called fender to find out what model it was, needless to day it was good news. The little fucker.
but back to me, i have a great sounding korean strat and my best friend has an early 90's mexican strat as well and it sounds awesome.
Checkii, the average age of these 3 is like 13. The only time they get to see guitars other than the ones they own is when their moms drive them to the guitar store. They're just throwing around popular cliches that they hear other people say and I think they are the only three members of the "fenders suck" club. I'm gonna start my own club and it's gonna be the I'm old enough to drive and buy alcohol club.checkii wrote:I beg to differ. Ok so you believe that since your older you are automatically better than they are. I'm twenty times better than a 27 year old I know that has been playing for 6 years. He really sucks! I'm 15 and I know a good deal about guitars. Though I do admit I dont know everything. How old are you and how long have you been playing? Not to sound conceided but I only personally know one guitarist better than me. I know Dave and John Mayer are better than me but I mean personally know. How naive can you be to think that age has anything to do with ability and knowledge?

I guess reading comprehension comes with age as wellkcw wrote:Ok so you believe that since your older you are automatically better than they are. Read what he wrote again numbnuts, he said that the younger folk don't get to see and haven't been around to see as many different guitars. He never said that cause someone was young they automatically suck.
I do suggest you play less guitar and practice reading more, but that's a different thread.
I myself am 24, i've played off and on (very off) since I was 16, I am horrible, probably only 2 years of actual playing, no lessons, no help, hence why i suck I guess.
No matter if he said anything about ability it implied it. He said he automatically knew more about guitars then those younger than him just because he is older. Though his reasonings do make sense he shouldnt assume that for everything. Because age has nothing to do with it.

It's tough to find guitar players better than yourself if you can't f'in go anywhere. Ask your mom if you can ride your bike to the local clubs or have her drive your ass around to see some local music and I'm sure you'll run across plenty of people who can play circles around your ass. In the meantime take Checkii's advice and bone up up on the reading comprehension. I wasn't saying that since they were young they didn't know anything or couldn't play, but come on bashing non-American made Fenders is a cliche. I'm 24 and have been playing all of 1 yr and I'll be the first to admit I fuckin suck at playing the guitar and I imagine that all three of those guys and you are probably better than me(EDIT: I listened to your stuff in the recording section and you are better than me). Again I was merely stating that in general (not always) with age comes knowledgekcw wrote:Ok so you believe that since your older you are automatically better than they are. For instance when your my age you'll have the knowledge that statements like this one make you sound like an asshat.
