i would get the spruce..i think it sounds deeper and better, my m6 spruce and a great sound, even better i think that some more expensive guitars that my friends have..IMO this guitar has the best guitar value in the $300-$450 range

It's kinda like this, no matter what wood you get, the most important thing is that it's good quality wood. And apparently, on Seagulls, it is.
Thanks, man. That's some good advice!

Thats actually not good advice...sorry. I know how excited you were.
You took me WAAAAAAY too literally when I said it has a tendancy to break up. What I meant by that is it loses clarity and projection not that the guitar would explode when you take a pick to it . It's well known that cedar is much better suited to fingerstlye. So I say agian, if all you do is strum and you like to play pretty hard get the spruce. It will be much better for that task.

Yeah, I think most people understood you.

But it just came out a little wrong.

I have a cedar top on mine, and I actually liked it better than the spruce (I had my choice of either when purchasing.) I tend to like a boomy low end though, and cedar gives you that. The guitar has balls, and its VERY loud. Great projection. I dig that.

Like I said though, I think I personally wouldve gone with something else. The wide neck is something that will bug the shit out of you once you get better. You should really consider that if youre not planning on buying another guitar for a long time.

You know, guys, you've effectivly talked me out of this guitar, but I'm REALLY glad you did. MWR, I understood what you meant, but honestly, I didn't realize cedar wasn't well-suited for strumming. I knew it was a softer wood, but I didn't know it was soft to that extent. Anyways, I'm not getting a Seagull but I want to get something really sweet for the money (about $750) and it has to be an acoustic/electric... what do you guys suggest? Brands, models, etc.?

This right here is why DMBTabs is about the coolest and most knowledgeable place to hang out and talk about music and guitar. Thanks guys. You're awesome!

Well.. There gotta be a guitarshop somewhere around you. I suggest you go there, ask for something affordable that'll last you a while and try it out. Then write down the brand and model names of the guitars you find interesting on a list. Then you could ask about them here, but you could also check reviews on the internet. http://www.harmony-central.com got a lot of user reviews.

The most important thing, really, is that you like the guitar. But it's always good to have another opinion. Wouldn't want a guitar that, even though it might feel good, break easily.

Breedlove just introduced their first low end series. They're made in korea but that doesn't mean they're crap.
You can get a solid spruce/rosewood with electronics and cutaway for $899 retail not street. I would go to a dealer and check these things out if I were you.

Look at an Art&Lutherie or a Simon&Patrick. Theyre both made by Godin (same co. that makes seagulls) but theyve got very different designs. Same great tone (and theyre readily available with a spruce top) but with narrower necks, and theyre just as affordable.

Stay away from the Taylor 110. Its a piece of shit for what you pay for it. That guitar should cost about 3-400, not what it does.

It really depends on what you want, but definitely check out the two companies I told you about. I hadnt heard about the breedloves that mwr is talking about, but they make some great higher end stuff, so Id be really interested in hearing their new lower end stuff (btw...in case youre not aware, $899 retail means about $750 actual. Right in your range.)

Thanks, mb! Yup, trust me, I'll talk 'em down :D I will check those companies out more in depth, though. I had quickly looked at them when I saw that they were Seagull "affiliates" if you will.
