D'addario EXP's. I use EXP15's, which are the extra light gauge. They're coated like Elixirs, but have a little more texture so you have a little more control over your fingers. They're a couple bucks cheaper on average, too. Last a lot longer also.

I actually found they gunked up a lot faster than Elixirs do.DMBTaylorPlayer wrote:D'addario EXP's. I use EXP15's, which are the extra light gauge. I hate elixirs. EXP's are the best guitar strings that I have ever played.

Re: what brand of strings?
what brand/model guitar do you have? more than likely D'Addario EJ17 strings will sound amazing on it. do your fingers sweat and with acid that makes the strings gunk up and/or turn green? if so, than you might wanna try the EXP coated kinds which last a lot longer but are more expensive and don't sound as natural as the uncoated.saleen wrote:I searched for previous posts but I got a bunch of random stuff....

I haven't tested these out yet but you may want to try GHS true mediums. The luither that is working on my stuff recommended them. They're kinda of different in that they use some strings from the light set. Also they only cost 8$.

what strings...?
Everyone will have their personal preferences about coated or not...what elixir poly or nanoweb...ddairio (or however you spell it) an infinite choice of gauges...people mixing sets to get a particular string gauge. But there is nothing like trial and error. Also...look at what type of stuff you play, and also your guitar. Do you want to bring out more bass-id try some martin sp bronzed steel...want a brighter coated string....try the exp or the coated martins or nanoweb...a little darker try the polyweb. Personally i have had bad experiences with standard martin strings, but the SPs seem pretty good....Ddairio is pretty much your benchmark string. Hope this helps.

those true mediums look like they are made to be tuned up to open E. i like that. i use the bluegrass guages. they use light strings for the high e and high b. and then use the medium guage for Low EADG strings. and i have been using elixirs but i may just try out some EXP's.4mbi3nt wrote:I haven't tested these out yet but you may want to try GHS true mediums.
