Different bracing makes a huge difference in tone and the Herringbone jsut looks nice.

Herringbone is the style of trim used to bind the top of the guitar. Its the alternating white and black pattern on the plastic binding.
The 'HD' designation means that the guitar has scalloped bracing. So the strips of wood glued to the underside of the top to give it structural strength are shaved down in order to let it better resonate when you strum or pick the guitar. It adds some bass response and shapes the overall tone. Some prefer the standard D-35 and some like the HD35, same thing with the '28' series. I have an HD28 and love it. Just have to try them both out yourself and go with the one that you prefer.
PS: The HD option is an upcharge, so they run a little bit more than a standard D35.
