Advice on Godins/LG HMB

Unread post by Silk » Fri Jul 16, 2004 10:22 am

So, here's the conundrum. I can get a $500 new satin-finish Godin LG HMB at an independent store. I have $250 I have to use at a Sam Ash (This is before I check out their stock, haven't been in a while) so I was thinking of using that to get an amp. Now, if I don't use the $250 at Sam Ash for a guitar, I might as well buy a used guitar if I find a good deal. Any opinions on choice, or what kind of Godin I should get? I was looking at the xtsa, but I don't know if that's in production or anything yet... LG Sig would be $800, don't really think I can afford that with an amp :/ I have an acoustic already.

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

They really are great guitars... I'm just debating how to spend the money. I can't find a used satin finish, and it has a very high resale... so, I think that's a great electric to go for. Any amp reccomendations less than $250 that I can use pedals with?

Edit: Oh, and what's the difference between the Seymour-Duncan pickups of the LG and the humbuckers of the HMB?

Inspired by classic, all-mahogany electric guitars, we equipped the LG with two Seymour Duncan SP-90 single coil pickups.

I'm asking about the difference in sound or qualities between the different pickups. I know little to nothing about pickups, sooo >>;

single coils are for more of a jazzy sound IMO... think fender strat sounds.

humbuckers are fuller, pick up more of a tonal range, have more versatility (anything really)...

i prefer humbuckers... my LGX has 2 Seymour Duncan humbuckers

How much was the LGX? And that comes with synth acess right? I'd love to have that, but most are pretty damn expensive... that's why I was looking at the xtsa

i payed about $800 for it and about $150 for a small amp. there is no synth access... i didnt want it. it has the acoustic piezo though. the thing about the synth access is that youd need to spend another G on the synth... i dont have that kinda money.
