Martin Backpacker?

Unread post by hd28v » Fri Mar 07, 2003 8:19 pm

Does anyone own, or ever played a steel string Martin Backpacker? I am thinking about getting one soon so I can take it places during the Spring and Summer since I am outdoors a lot. Just curious what people think. They are selling new for around $149 which is a affortable price.

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

You should go to a music store and play one for yourself. They sound like a cheap banjo and are akward to play. I guess with time and practice you can get use to them but I would go for a Baby Taylor myself.

I second that. (uncomfortable}
Unless you have the body of a 3 year old. Go to Guitar Center and pick one up. Thats the only place Ive seen them where you can play it in the acoustic room.

don't even bother going to guitar center to try to play one. they suck. period. next question please.

you'd have to pay ME to play one. i wouldn't even shell out ten bucks for those things. go with a baby taylor or the mini larivee if you want a travel guitar.

I actually own one.

Cons:

sound sucks
action is very high (but I assume this can be fixed, I'm just too lazy)
uncomfortable to play unless standing up.

pros:

small, lightweight
relatively cheap

When its all said and done, its great to travel with on planes. I take to keep my fingers fresh, not so much for the sound. I much rather have this than lugging around a full size or worrying about something I actually care about.
Do what you will, always
Walk where you like, your steps
Do as you please, I'll back you up.

i bought a kids starter guitar that is synthetic and i keep it in the trunk of my car and have never even used a case for that thing. it is funny to see people's reactions when you show up for a road trip and you just have this guitar with no case or anything. it cost me like 100 bucks but i got some strings and a winder and a crappy stand with it. i've actually had to strap it to the top of my car before when i was moving. now that was hilarious. my mom took a picture.

a friend of mine has a mini guitar that is actually tuned to A so it is a 5 steps higher than a normal guitar. its like a reverse baritone. that is a sweet guitar. and again. it's always in the trunk of his car.

and to be honest they both sound pretty good. not as loud or as vibrant but they are also a lot smaller than normal dreadnoughts.

i think everyone should own a peice of shit guitar. if i lost it or broke/smashed it, i would buy another one.

They're nice little guitars. I have a friend who bought one for his son as a starter guitar.
