What effect lets you lock in a sound?

Unread post by two steps too many » Fri Feb 07, 2003 9:34 am

I've seen/heard many players stomp, play, stomp again and they have what they just played locked into repeat and then they can play over what they just recorded. Tim does it alot, on stream that constant harmonic is locked in. What is it? I don't use effects but that one sounds interesting to me. I'm thinking something on the echo/delay, maybe that reverse option?

It's called looping. THe Line 6 DL4 has 14 seconds (that is a lot) of looping. That means you can play a 14 second piece and have it play over and over again. Howie Day uses it a lot as well.

The Boss dd-5 has only a 2 second loop (still can be useful)
And I believe that the dd-6 has soemthing like 3-5 second (I'm not too sure, but it's higher than the dd-5)

Hope this helps a bit. (I'm sure there are other pedals that do these things but these are the most popular)

Peace,

yeah I have my DL-4 and I love it...14 seconds is correct...

I also have the DD-6 and I think it holds like 5 sec. too...

they both provide different time lengths, but believe me...you would want the DL-4 so you can play like 2 measures and not be stuck with the same EXACT repeating sequence every 5 sec... just doesn't work too well...I used the DL-4 on my TS covers...its real fun and has like EVERY delay known programed into it... :D

tim reynolds, wes king, phil keggy, and lots more use em' too!
