humidifier question

Unread post by proudmonkey721 » Thu Jan 30, 2003 3:54 pm

i bought one recently and i know to use it if im not playing for a couple days - but should i keep it in during the day and/or at night
i live in nyc and the climate in the apartments more toward cold then hot

my guitars almost always out of the case during the day and really the longest ive gone without playing it so far is the 12 hrs or so during sleep and my first class of the dayand its usually in the case during that time

i know i rambled a little but my point is how often should i keep the humidifier in the guitar

i hope i made some sense
thanks

as far as I know you should always leave it in there unless it begins to become too humid. I dont think the playing time has that much to do with it. Its the dry air that gets it and whether or not its in the case or being played, its continually being exposed to the air. I'd suggest getting a humidifer gauge. I bought a cheap room humidifer for 15 bucks and it came with a little one. I'd say they're pretty cheap. I'm sure mine isn't 100% accurate, but it at least gives you an idea. I also wound up buying an in guitar humidifer too, but Im not a big fan of the one I bought. Thats just my thought on it. I posted a humidifer question not too long ago and only one sole replied to mine. I thought I'd add my input on it in here for you.

proudmonkey is right on. Keep the humidifier in unless it gets overly humid. Generally, it's good to keep a guitar in 50-60% humidity. Also, if you can keep it in the case, it's better for the guitar.
