I bought my first D'Addario EXP strings

Unread post by Wesdutchmaster » Sat Dec 27, 2003 1:53 am

I went to Guitar Center for the first time in my life [none in Europe] and wanted my elixir custom light, but they didnt carry those. [WTF?] But they did have .011 D'Addario custom lights, so I'll put those on tomorrow. Anyone here use them? Enjoy?

custom lights? are those lighter than lights?
i enjoy d'addario's. have a good sound IMO. also, the price makes them sound sweeter than elixirs. ;)

D'addario=terrible. The EXP coating whatever is useless. They squeak more than the GHS's I used when I was (really) poor, and they turn your fingers green by the third day of use. I love Elixir custom lights too, they are thickness .11-.52, when regular lights are .12-.53.

my budget has played a big deal with buying strings lately...i don't really mind the squeaking, and i didn't really like dean markley's, either. 15 bucks for 3 sets of d'addarios compared to one set of elixirs are a better bargain, and they last just as long in my book, anyway.

I got a pack of Dean Markley, but all my local shop had were the cryogenic blue ones or whatever they are...I was impressed, but they were $2.50 more per pack than d'adds. I wont make a judgement though until I try the vintage bronzes that Ranting raves about.

just wondering, why does any one really care if they squeak? i think thats one of the cool little things about a guitar, IMO thats one reason (besides the fact that they suck) that a keyboard will never do any instrument, especially guitar, justice

but anyway, listen to some professional acoustic stuff, think they care if they squeak?

I agree. I also like the squeaking. I've been playing D'addario EXP's for about a year now and I love them. Elixirs are too slippery for me -- I love the sound, but I cant keep my fingers on the frets during a long stretch. Pain in the ass. Anyone ever try the Martin coated strings??

But going back to the squeaking, almost every acoustic album I've heard, live or studio, has sqeaking when the player changes hand positions. It is defininately a part of playing. I mean, excessive squeakage (haha. like that word?) can be annoying, but I don't hear that very often.
