Dispatch Cover: "The General"

Unread post by horsmar15 » Thu Feb 26, 2004 3:43 pm

I have been playing around with this song for a while now, and I finally decided to record it. For me this song is really vocally challenging, especially the high parts. I realize my voice cracked a little on the first chorous too, but it was only my thrid take and I didn't feel like recording anymore. Give it a listen and tell me what ya think.

Sounds good...the intro and bridge sounded a little off to me, you might just have a different tab from what i play though...the strumming for the verse and chorus was pretty much right on. Your voice sounded good, it seemed like this song is perfect for your voice...good job.

the intro was a little different from the way I play it too, but it still sounded good. Good song. Good job on the vocals too. I like how you weren't shy about singing.

Great Job overall

As EnFuego said the intro sounded a little different from the original... I dunno if you did that on purpose or not, but it was kinda cool. The other guitar parts were pretty darn good... But around 1:50-2:10 it sounded like you had a little trouble with that riff. I dunno if that is hard, I've never tried this song, but it kinda sounded like it was trailing off at parts. Other than that, SOLID guitar work, very enjoyable to listen to.

As for the vocals, as Versacci said, it is the perfect song for your voice. It sounded a LOT like the original vocal wise. Great job, I wanna hear you do some more Dispatch, like Two Coins would sound good with your voice IMO.

Good job...in key almost the whole time (couple splotchy parts in the chorus,) but on the whole your voice was great for this one. I'll have to echo the others in saying that your intro was off...but its not a big deal. Nice cover.

Thanks for the comments so far. I think I have some control problems because this one is vocally stressing for me. The note on "seen" is an F or a G i think and it is basically the highest note I can hit with some consistency. After singing that note it is hard for me to transition to the others. I think with some more practice in the high vocal register I could keep this song on key the whole time, well at least hopefully :D

that sounded great. i know this kinda sounds bad...but i had trouble listening to your intro. lol. i mean yea, it was different, kinda cool. but i guess i just put so much work into making it sound like them that any change sounds like cheating to me.....

but wahtever! other than that, the cover was great. your voice sounded great IMO, and your guitar was great...except the intro...haha.

I really never learned the proper way to play the intro, cause I learned the song a long time ago and never really took the time to relearn it the right way.

I honestly thought when you started singing that it was the original...your voice is awesome with this song. the guitar is a little off though...polish the guitar up a little bit and you have one hell of a solid cover.

jared, thanks for the compliment. I am surprised that you dug up this thread from so long ago. I should rerecord this song, I can hit the vocals alot better now.

I'm really enjoying it man. Good job. You're vocals are good, I don't know what you're worried about.
