First Original Song

Unread post by DMBand2step » Sat Feb 07, 2004 11:02 pm

Hey everyone, you might remember me from a few weeks ago with my first recording with Ants Marching- http://www.dmbtabs.com/boards/viewtopic ... highlight=
That didnt go as well as I had hoped, but I hope I get a little better response this time. Theres no singing, just a verse/chorus/verse. I'm a beginner, so with that said, don't expect anything great. Heres the link:

Thanks,

John

Beginner my arse. When you say beginner, everyone expects a straight forward G-C-D progresstion with the occational hammer-on. That was really good man, I like it a lot. Find a melody, put some words to it and let us hear! :) Keep it up!

Incredibly catchy. You really got somethin here, just add a bit of lead maybe and some lyrics and it'll be great. Very impressive :D

Thanks for all the feedback. I was excited about this one; it was a lot better than the others I wrote. Does anyone have any suggestions on writing lyrics? I've tried before, but never come up with anything at all.

Once again, thanks for the help,

John

sounds great, has a nice little bass run pattern, and non of the chords sound out of place. Everthing flows together nicely. Great Job-

One of the local musicians in my area has a little article on "writing lyrics". Check it out, and check out his music as well-

On the topic of writing lyrics, my best advice is to sit by yourself in a quiet room and just think. Think of all of your memories that really affected you in some way or was really special in some way, and let it just pour out of you. My best experience with lyrics was one night where I was doing nothing at all, and all of a sudden my hand was going. I read it like 5 times before I realized what it was about :) So basically just let it flow from stuff you experienced

juineaux, thanks for the link, I think it'll be helpful. The only thing I don't really get is when to rhyme and when not to. I guess it might just come to me, but I always thought rhyming was at the ends of lines. That article kind of confused me on that aspect.

Thanks for all you're help, I like all the comments!

Actually it sounds like a different style than Dave, and it's pretty damn catchy too. Don't sell yourself so damn short, definitely not a beginner man. Good work :)
