My first multitrack recording

Unread post by horsmar15 » Mon Dec 01, 2003 4:10 pm

Hello, everybody I just got back from my fall break with some new software so I decided to test it out by recording a song. I wrote this song over break and really didnt rehearse it very much, but I wanted something new to record. First of all some points I would like to make about the track. The guitar, vocals, etc. were all basically one take (except for leads, timing took me a few). So I realiize that the vocals could be better, (I never rehearsed the second verse before recording :D .) but I realize that, and I am sure I will be able to nail them with more practice. Also, just for reference this recording was once again with the crappy dell mic.
The areas I am looking for criticism on are, the song in general, and the recording techniques. In a couple of weeks, I will be using my friend's studio to record a few tracks, so I want to know if this track seems like a good plan to follow for the studio recording.
Other than that hope you enjoy, and thanks in advance for any constructive criticism.

I really enjoyed this tune. I thought the recording was quite decent; I would be pleased with your new software. It sounds like you're in an alternatate tuning, maybe open-E?

The vocals were on key, I didn't grimace once throughout the song. If I were forced to complain about your voice, I would say it's a bit too whispery and perhaps you added a bit too much reverb, but that just might be for the mood of the song, for which it would be quite fitting.

Guitar-playing was good as well. It didn't seem like anything difficult (I don't mean that in a negative connotation, just an observation).

Good songwriting, I'd say you have a nice talent there.

Ya I had a few comments about the tuning, but it is just in standard. Though open e tuning would be a cool idea for another rythm track.
