This post or the other post they still sound great. I have listened to them a bunch of times tonight.

I was wondering what is the best way to post some songs on the net. I think I want to start doing that.

Peace

I am provided some free server space with my college. That really is the key: getting server space. I don't know if free server space is out there, and if it is, in what quantities, but it's all about the server space. If you can get that, it's fairly simple to get rolling. Some folks here use nowhereradio or something like that. I don't know if that's free or not. I think dmbfanjason uses the nowhereradio links, so you might ask him how he gets that. Also, I know superman is pretty good with this stuff. They are the ones I'd ask.

check hypermart.com or .net they do hosting like up to 20 megabytes. Im also thinking about finding one of the guys who offered to host us for free and seeing if he can let us get a board login so people can upload songs.

Sorry Love:
The opening acapella vocals are a little rocky. But as i've said to you before we allready discussed this. Keep the acapella approach. The song form is fantastic (the structure mixed with vocals and the guitar work). especially the introduction of the guitar. 0:40 is beautiful also the falcetto around 1:05 or whatever is superb. your voice gets real strong after the intro. sounds very confident.. it sounds like this is one of your favorite songs to me (even if this isnt true, that's a very good thing to get from the song) 1:57 that slow strum is excellent, add more hitting of your guitar live, but make sure you have a mic infront of you and you're not playing straight with a pickup or it'll sound bad to hit the guitar face. 2:19 - superb. 2:45 -- "too much" sounds a lil rocky. 2:55 "tell me how am i supposed..." through 3:10 is excellent. basicly this song is excellent. i cant praise it enough. You should consider doingn a trebble boost or a presence boost to your guitar track, it's a little quiet. Your voice is great.
4:10 "all of your mind (i think)" is excellent. do that more often with your voice. the ending that you do is beautiful.. do this at like 3:30 and finish the song at like 4:00 and i think it'd be more powerful.. or do it at like 3:00 and finish by 3:30. excellent ending.. absolutely beautiful ending, strongest part of the song in my opinion.

only suggstion is for the recording shorten the song down to under 3:45 save the long version for live. it drags on a little (which isnt bad, just might get obnoxious for someone who listens over and over again).

Returning to Dust:
Strong intro. Guitar needs to be louder... Fortunately your voice is so beautiful that i dont mind not being able to hear the guitar as easily.0:49 your little stop time thing here and there is superb. 1:07 -- "Run" is a little off.... 1:15 falcetto is great. Definitely keep your falcetto work. 1:22 NICE vocal change up. 1:30 - 1:45 = holy shit. 2:00+ good chorusing up to 2:23 ... 2:26 that chorus hurts a little. listen to it carefully sounds like one of hte voices is lacking ... or behind or something. 2:32 falcetto is great as usual. 2:43 into 2:45 is a nice little break. very appropriate. 2:55 "hell bent" take out the chorus on the vocals on that. also check your pitch there. 3:09 "day ey ay" no no no no... 3:20 "so as i dive into your lap" ... get rid of the chorus into the end of the song. that's my feeling about it at least. you should do a reverb (tight and close) and a trebble boost on the guitar. impeccable guitar work. great song.

Strength of a Little Boy:
0:32 - wonder when did i get so bold: check your voice it's a little airy. Great guitar work in the beginning. Your vocals sound very flat (you need to reverb it, and the guitar). if you dont have the software to do this you can send me your wav tracks and i can do that for you. 1:23 "so in love with you" not sure if i like your vocals on that little phrase. 1:34 "i will take this life by the hands" you're singing and playing REALLY fast. slow it down!!!! a lot... 1:53 shows the guitar fast fast fast... slow it down i think like maybe 3/5 maybe a lil less then 4/5 the current speed (that's three fifths, not 3/5 time, and four fifths). My biggest complaint about this song is how fast you're going including the guitar and the vocals. the guitar line is really neat fast, maybe you could do a little jam with it later or in the middle and then slow it down gracefully back to the song. im very adiment about this becuase the song is beautiful... however it's just so fast i feel like the speed hurts it. nice ending :)

Call Me Love:
Guitar needs reverb again. And a trebble boost. Your voice is also pretty flat sounding (not pitch) so i'd do a tight and close reverb on that track as well. 1:22 - oh my god. your story telling on this song is SEXY and AWESOME. nothing but praise for this song. 1:45 - "i cant get enough" is perfect. your voice is awesome on this song. also sounds like this is one of your favorites. 2:00 the oooooOOOooo falcetto is a lil off pitch check that one. 2:14 nice guys always lose: very nice line and very nicely sung. you do a good job taking a very simple story / idea and turning it into a beautiful song. 2:40 "some people just dont know how to love" is great vocally and guitar wise. 2:52 sounds like you strum your guitar incorrectly. 3:01 "i cant get enough" sounds a lil off. Your falcetto needs to be checked throughout this song. you have a great falcetto ususally however sounds like it might have been rushed due to not enough time in the studio?

Great work my man.

Can i get your screen name that you're on a lot? you can IM me ifyou dont want to give it out... Aguitarguy02

regards,
x

wow, thanks for the in depth stuff. it's really helpful.

a quick note on lyrics: what sounded like "dive into your lap" or something like that was "die into your life." there are a couple other places where what you seem to hear isn't what i'm singing, but i had to catch that one :) if you want a copy of the lyrics, i can send them to you.

On returning to dust, your comments on the different harmony parts are right on. unfortunately, for the harmony track, we only had time for one track, and i hadn't even worked on what i was going to sing for it. i was just like, hey, roll the track, and see what comes out off the top of my head, so it definitely needs work.

with strength of a little boy, i'll definitely consider slowing it down. not sure how that will work though. i think that that the song is a tick or two faster than i normally play it though.

call me love was actually recorded on a friends computer using a relatively cheap mic and some freeware, so that's why the quality isn't as good. we also only had time for two vocal takes, liked the second better, and slapped the two together, so it too needs a little better treatment recording wise.

in terms of my aim name, the ticohans83 is the only one i use right now, i just am not on aim very often. i'll probably be using it more and more though. however, i'm heading out of town on thursday, and won't really be back until mid-january. i'm going to be with my family in el salvador for a couple days, and then on an island scuba diving, and then on tour with my college's concert choir, so i won't really be getting to a computer too often. i'll be back faithfully though come mid january.

i havent listened to your stuff a whole lot but i find it interesting that they dont really contain verses, choruses, bridges, etc... Maybe they do, but there are a whole bunch of different ones. This is something im not really used to. usually, i break songs down into different parts, but yours tend to keep flowing, all one part, or about 30 different parts, i cant decide. anyway, thats just the opinion of a newbee and young one.

You have an amazing voice man, I can say nothing bad about your guitar playing and voice because I am not the same quality of a musician. Sometimes your voice sounds a little shaky, but thats what I like about it. You have passion in your voice keep it up and I'll see you on tour when you get famous! :D

Opinions, both positive and negative, are quite welcome fellforher, regardless of level of musicianship. Can't promise I'll agree with everything, but feel free to say what you want.

and djs, I'd say that my songs do have versus, choruses, bridges, and the like, only that I don't really about the standard format. Well, I guess Returning to Dust is quite different... hmm, never really thought about this before. I guess for that song I have two different choruses and two different bridges. Strength of a Little Boy has two different verse formats. Captured is pretty straightforward, I think. And I guess Sorry Love just has a long bridge, as does Call Me Love. I don't know, now you've got me thinking :). I just don't worry about it. I try to make the song flow, and forget about formal titles of verse and chorus. If you write stuff of your own, I'd suggest you try it. Just because there is a popular format out there doesn't mean that you have to follow it.

And thanks for the compliments guys. They're humbling in a funny sort of way.

Update alert: I've put up some of my almost complete new material at http://www.davidson.edu/personal/chwood/home.htm

The new stuff is under the heading "New Stuff." Yeah, kinda tricky, I know. Seriously though, I'd love it if you all could listen and give me some feedback...
