New Original: Fade Away

Unread post by geekmug » Fri Jul 18, 2003 2:56 am

This is new song I record just the other day.. I'm using a much better vocal mic, a friend of mine's condensor even.. I am still working on the vocals, but I figured I'd put it up here and gets some criticisms back on my voice, 'cause I want to learn what I am doing wrong..

first off...awesome awesome awesome!!!

I love it...the guitars and melody lines are killer...

your voice sounds much better since the Stone already...

you just have a voice that is naturally like Dylan's...thats ok...but if I were to try and give constructive feedback -> try not to sounds drowsy...you tend to pull your notes from flat to just right, but that pull in the vocals is clear...whatever you do, don't forsake what feels comfortable...don't change it unless it feels right to you...

you have some awesome talent man...kudos

ok this is probably a stupid question, but is that just you on there? if it is, how do you keep the melody going while playing lead guitar? great song though, i really like it, (dont laugh at my stupid questions :D)

It's a multi-track recording. Basically he played and recorded the rhythm track and overlayed the lead. The vocals may be a separate track too.

I liked it too. Very solid song. My only vocal criticism would be to try extend your range a bit. Maybe it's very narrow, but I think if you go a bit higher here and there it'll make it more interesting to listen too. Great job though.

Yes, the brdige of the song was recorded on another track, as well are the vocals. I've actually thought about this.. I usually try and play things in a fashion that I could do it live.. I figure I can play the rythme part like two or four times into a repeater, and then I would be free to play over it.. anyways, yes, it is multi-track.

And, thanks for all your comments

Pretty cool guitar part

very clean guitar playing

A little redundent but still a well crafted song.

Sorry to say it but the only realy downpoint are the vocals

Youve got talent though man

And we see faces walking back
Tonight everybody gonna remember

Very nice, well put together on the guitar side. Vocally....I had a hard time hearing you, or distinguishing words...the vocal melody and how it meshed with the guitar seemed a little off to me as well....almost like rambling. I like the deepness of your voice but you are mumbling and holding back....try and sing some of the parts....even in the end you try and improv an extended sort of "fade away" and you are really holdin back...let it go. I wish I had the deepness of your voice. recap: guitar - was awesome and well crafted...vocal - let it out!

great percussive guitar part, vocals are good. I would complain about you mumbling a bit, but since I mumble more than anyone, i cant complain. Great Job!

Amen. That way you can get the shakes out. Those are the nervous quivers in your voice the first couple times you sing infront of people. But definetly keep it up. As for the guitar playing, that's a great progression. It truly sounds professional.
