The best I got-site back up & shouldn't go down again

Unread post by longleggedfrog » Tue Jul 08, 2003 8:05 am

Well, I feel like this is the best I got. The song originated with the thought of hanging out in college and hanging out and camping....and then went from their. I hope you enjoy it, and please let me know what you think, again, it is only stummed and vocal...no layers, etc, etc. I think I would need some assistance to get to the next level. All comments welcome. Anyway, enjoy.

Hey! Another solid song. Your tunes definitely have a fun and "bouncy" feel to them. I liked the little break where you varied the strumming a bit. The chorus also has some great chord changes. Perhaps a varied strumming pattern there too would help, maybe slower single note picking or something. That way when you jump back into the verse it'll bring the energy back up instead of trying to sustain it all the way through.

Your vocals sound better. Try recording them as a separate track so you can concentrate on hitting your notes. I think you have a better voice than your recordings are showing. I had the same problem with recording while singing and playing. I could get the guitar sounding good, but the vocals were lost. Recording the vocals as a separate track really helped. See my Billes thread and compare the two versions to see what I mean. What is your recording setup?

Cheap microphone, and cakewalk. I have tried to do them separately, but I can't get the voice and the guitar to mesh very well, one or the other sticks out, and it definitely doesn't make my voice sound better when I do them separately. I have tried to put the microphone up high and closer to my mouth to let the vocals hit more, but I don't think I'll do them separately until I buy a good microphone. I am interested to see if my voice sounds better thru a good microphone....I'm not sure it will though. I'd like to hook up with someone to help me/us take it to the next level, I have my limits and I think writing and rhythm is it.
Anyone in metro detroit......send me a message maybe we can hook up.

i have one piece of advice froggy...

the unique thing about this song is that the verse is in 4/4 and the chorus is in 3/4. there is absolutely nothing wrong with this, its just that when you make the transition going from the verse to the chorus, its very sudden and seems like a mistake. going back to the verse from the chorus was a good transition though. just try to come up with something that will make this change seem smoother (add another lick, let the last chord ring out or something to that degree).

otherwise the song sounded pretty good...

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the input and advice.
I remember when I was first recording the song, and the leap into the chorus seemed awkward and I couldn't figure out why or what to do, but then I just got used to it, but now I see...thanks fatJack, I like the suggestions and will definitely look into smoothing it out. :D
