Messin' round in the studio
Messin' round in the studio
How are you gentleman?? You have no chance to survive make your time.
I've been interning at a recording studio and subsequently was able to record some shtuff. The guys there are really awesome.
Here it is. It has no title nor are any of the lyrics solid. I personally think it has that "dave" sound a bit too much but it's still fun for me.
Anywho, hope you enjoy.

awesome that you're working at a studio, and even cooler than you're getting a chance to record. (you should talk them into letting them let you use mics instead of recording DI! - i long for the day when i can hear a zach recording non-di.)
as for the song, it's really not my style, and i noticed it wasn't even yours really. which is good because you have enough original material out there to have established a style. but a friend of mine told me one of the best ways to garner style and sonic-range is to write and record songs that are completely out of your comfort zone - which may have been what you did here. either way, you can take this as a track to put in your style bucket to pull out when you're working on a song.
good stuff.

Thanks Matt, it will definitely evolve from where it is now. I think the prechorus and chorus are iffy but the verse is pretty solid. I particularly like how I panned the guitars to bounce off eachother from left to right ear.
Pat, As for the mics, we have ribbon mics and nuemans at the studio but since my song is just a side little fun project, I didn't think I should get too technical with stereo micking or anything of that nature. I would have otherwise if I were paying to be in the studio. So one day your dream shall be realized.
This song is stylistically different for me. These guys at the studio wanted to hear some of my songs so I started playing old ideas I had scrapped and they took a liking to this one. They wanted to, as they call it, "hang the meat on this tune." By hanging meat, they mean heavy drumming and multiple telecaster overdubs. Luckily I was able to tone down the electric guitars to the point of inaudibility. They were pretty hammy. Glad you liked it.
Mark, as a matter of fact a retired studio musician by the name of Mark laid down the drum track. His timing is immaculate. Human fucking metronome. The stops he pulls in this song with the high hat still make me giddy. The bass guitar was played by the owner of the place, Kip, who likes to be apart of everything, considering its his dollar paying for all this monkey business. He's a great guy though. This intern has been pretty awesome for me, I've learned a shite load.
Anyway, thank you gentleman for taking the time. Always appreciate hearing what you guys think.

wrapped up in the studio about 2 hours ago. it was my first ever studio experience and i had a blast. the guy i'm working with really knows his shit and cut me an amazing deal because we work together. i recorded 3 songs with vocals through an MCI JH-428 console. it's the same model that pink floyd recorded "the wall" on, which i thought was a pretty cool fact. anyway, he's doing the mixing and mastering and i should have some finished tracks next week. i covered 3 songs: "come on get higher" by matt nathanson, "collide" by howie day (guilty pleasure), and "strong enough" by kina grannis. i stuck to covers for my first studio experience but will definitely be going back to do some originals.

nice... i definitely want to lay down some tracks sometime, most definitely covers the first time through. If it didn't cost so much to do all that stuff (unless you know someone i guess), i would just spend like 3 or 4 days doing all the songs i'm good at, just to have them in good quality and everything.
