MMM MMM MMM MMM Cover

Unread post by Banjobach » Tue Dec 30, 2008 4:35 am

So I worked a little harder on this one than other videos of mine. I rented a cello and have had it for about 2 weeks now.
I decided to use it in this classic Crash Test Dummies song. Enjoy. Oh yeah, and don't pay attention to the lyrics

:D thanks Pat. Yeah, I just decided it was time to learn a new instrument, it helps me stay excited about music and stuff. Hopefully there's more to come with the cello. It's a beautiful instrument but man, oh man it can sound terrible so easily.

I'm really into it. However, I felt like after your use of the cello the bridge portion, a little cello interlude. I'm not quite sure how you'd word it. but I feel like the vocals there should have some sort of addition to them, whether it is doubling or adding in some harmonies. I think it would add a lot to the song.

Thanks Alazais. Which cello interlude are you referring to? Can you give me a time in the song that it occurs?

fucking excellent job man

my only critique is the cello work. on the mm mm mm mm parts, I'd make full strokes with the bow. try to really pull the sound out of the cello, it sounded like you were being too timid with it. play loudly, but just don't record it at such a high volume, if that makes sense. also another hint, don't rosin your bow so much, that way you can avoid those ear-piercing squeaks.

good tips. Hopefully with the next song I'll be more comfortable with the cello to make broader strokes. Thanks Blake.

I gave it another quick listen and when you start to build up before the outro would be a good spot, on the higher notes, to add an underneath harmony, and then i believe in and around the 1:55 mark, when you come in from the interlude.

You have a very distinct sound with your songs. it all has a very similar, high chorus/reverb type feel. Interesting choice and it works very well on some of your songs. Try expanding in terms of general sound throughout your music. Great Job though, i'm really into it.

I love CTD I don't care what Check2 says. I probably won't listen to your cover though but who knows I may get bored enough to then I will critique it to death and probably make you cry. You should really learn how to take criticism man. Fuckin cry baby. Once I ate a whole pineapple skin and all. My butt hole hurt after.
