MGMT-KIDS-Cover

Unread post by AustinG » Tue Jul 29, 2008 1:06 am

I heard this song tonight for the first time... just an awesome song.. I had to make a short lil cover, let me know what you guys and gals think.. I haven't been around in a while, I hope all is well..

Nothing complicated, one take live, lil delay and reverb added.

Edit: above link is dead, check out the song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HODgJX5FO44

I've never heard this song before, but I liked it a lot. The delay at the very beginning seemed to be a bit too much at first but once the song got going I thought it sounded great. Excellent vocals

the delay is a little much. i'd like to see you switch up the strumming pattern throughout the song more, it became a little monotonous. your voice is good, but wouldn't hurt from some fine tuning. you have a unique tremelo effect with it - most people have vibrato in their voices (pitch fluctuation) but what you're doing is tremelo, which is simply changing the volume rapidly. try going for the vibrato - it's a much prettier sound, and it will add a ton to a voice like yours.

Hey thanks for listening guys, I appreciate it. I agree the delay should be used more sparingly and the song is definitely worthy of some special guitar.. I used to sing more with a strict vibrato, but I think my tremolaish vibrato is unique and I'm keeping it ;)

Thanks again.

Tremendous cover. Excellent rhythm and very authentic, unique vocals. I like the tremolo approach. If I had to nitpick I'd say that you're voice is somewhat nasally but very enjoyable nonetheless. Good mix. What type of equipment/software are you using?
-Brian

Be excellent to one another.

Thanks brother, I really appreciate ya taking the time to listen.

I record With a groovetube Gt55 through a Mackie Onyx 400f, Using Cubase SX3, Monitor through a pair of K141 Studios. Playing a Taylor 414 ce that needs to be restrung ;).

This was recorded live, one track all through the Gt55, my voice may have sounded a bit tired at 2am.... ;)

Thanks again..

love it!!! great job. i just got into this song this past weekend, too, so i was excited to see this posted.

edit: you would really be great at euro house-ish or chilled out loungey vocal songs... there are a few songs on cafe del mar albums that your voice instantly reminded me of.

2nd edit: you can sell this... seriously... this recording had flaws but you can fix it up and it'd be better than the original.

Since all the cool kids are doing it I decided to record a rough cut. I really need to update my setup because all i have right now is a shitty USB mic

I'm trying to figure out what to do about the intro, It's fairly obvious i can't sing it but I feel like it should be in the there
